Elmira College was founded in 1855, the first institution of higher education to offer degrees to women equivalent to those being offered to men. Now a private, co-educational liberal arts college, Elmira emphasizes both general and professional education.

MISSION STATEMENT Elmira College Archives and Special Collections serves as the repository for the historical records of Elmira College, rare and fragile materials in the collections of the Library and other institutional and manuscript collections that have been entrusted to the care of the College.
